Mylan, Inc - Multiple Projects
|
Provided full A/E services for multiple projects at Mylan’s Puerto Rico facility for the manufacture of generic tablets. These projects included a 40,000 sq. ft. Packaging Line addition, a 2-story, 20,000 sq. ft. controlled substance facility addition, a 50,000 sq. ft. Warehouse addition and multiple renovation projects to remodel their existing Manufacturing facilities as well as to convert their existing Warehouse space into Manufacturing space. During one of the renovation projects, to convert existing Warehouse into Manufacturing space, it was imperative that the existing Manufacturing facility remains in production. The conversion of the Warehouse space, immediately adjoining the existing Manufacturing area, would generate a considerable amount of dust from the construction. Through the use of dust-tight partitions, precast concrete construction for the interior partitions, exhaust fans and a specially designed support system for the new Process mezzanine, the design team was able to minimize the amount of dust generated by construction activities to a controllable level, allowing production to continue during construction.

| Iolab - New Cleanroom |
Provided A/E services for the renovation of 10,000 sq. ft. of the existing Iolab facility in San German, Puerto Rico for the production of injectables, including new class 100 Fill rooms, a class 100 Tank Farm and a 400 sf reinforced concrete vault for Schedule II narcotics. The project required conformance to the U.S. Department of Justice Security Outline of Controlled Substance Act of 1970 requiring 30 man-minute protection against surreptitious entry, 10 man-minute protection against forced entry, 20 man-hour protection against lock manipulation and 20 man-hour protection against radiological attack.

| Medtronic - Manufacturing Facility and Cleanroom Expansion |
|
Provided full A/E services for multiple projects for the manufacture of medical devices including the design of a new 63,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and the approximately 5,700 sq. ft. expansion to an existing class 10,000 cleanroom along with necessary modifications to their existing Gowning facilities and Corridor access at their Villalba, Puerto Rico facility. The new office/lab/manufacturing facility was to be constructed within the existing structural framework of an existing 40,000 sq. ft., 1960’s industrial building plus a 23,000 sq. ft. addition. The challenge was to bring the existing facility up to the current code requirements of Puerto Rico. This required the gut and reconstruction of the entire building envelope including reinforcing of the roof framing system to bring the facility up to code.
The cleanroom expansion was a fast-track, design-build project requiring the addition of a separate HVAC system to serve the expansion with HEPA filters and 60 air changes per hour. Other utilities included compressed air, DI water, nitrogen and argon and the modification of the existing fire sprinkler system to accommodate the new layout. |
